1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco Mutrie
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,887.50
Extraordinary high-grade sample card of this extremely rare and popular nineteenth-century baseball card issue features New York Giants manager James Mutrie in all his glory. Mutrie was always well known for his fine dress and immaculate grooming, both of which are clearly in evidence in the portrait on his rare Yum Yum baseball card. One of the leading figures in the game in the 1880s, Mutrie led the prominent New York club to three Championships during that decade. A beautiful and very distinctive example from one of the rarest sets of the era. Excellent condition (front is Ex-Mt or better, we have down graded to Ex only due to the most minute hairline crease visible only from reverse, possibly just a paper production flaw as made). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $4,887.50
