1889 Brooklyn Base Ball Team Cabinet
Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $6,900.00
Incredible team cabinet photograph (4.25 x 6.5 inches) of the Brooklyn Nationals features the National League Champions in a traditional team pose. All players are identified along the bottom of the mount, along with the photographer's name and address ("Gardner & Company, 276 & 278 Fulton St."). The back of the mount is blank. This is an incredibly striking early cabinet photo with an ideal, perfectly crisp, clear image. The design is extremely similar to that of the Joseph Hall cabinets of the same era, and at first glance this gem is easily mistaken for a Joseph Hall. An ideal nineteenth-century team cabinet, this is the only example of this style we have ever seen, and one of the few known featuring the Brooklyn Champions of 1889. Extraordinary Near Mint condition. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $6,900.00
