Circa 1922 Babe Ruth Murphy-Rich Soap Advertising Trade Card

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $575.00

Rare advertising trade card (3.5 x 9 inches) dates from between 1921, when Ruth set the record with 59 homers, and 1927, when he finally broke this record. The card features an amusing sketch of Ruth hitting a bar of soap over the fence, captioned in blue: "Will "Babe" Ruth make 60 Home Runs this Season? We think so because he has the punch to "Put it Over" the Fence...You've seen "Babe" Ruth - hadn't you better see Murphy-Rich Co. about Soap?" There are some ink marks on the blank back, but the front is in Excellent to Near Mint condition. This unique Babe Ruth advertising card, the only example we have ever seen, was once a part of the famous Barry Halper Collection. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $575.00
