1933 R338 Sport Kings Near Complete Set (44/48)

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $9,775.00

44 of the 48 cards which comprise this classic multi-sport 1930s pre-war gum issue. Missing just four cards for completion (#2 Ruth, #4 Grange, #28 Doolittle, and #35 Rockne). We have selected 13 cards to be graded and encapsulated by PSA, as follows: Two PSA NM-MT 8: #36 Hoppe and #41 Browning. Three PSA NM 7: #3 Holman, #43 Carnera, and #46 Vines. Five PSA EX-MT 6: #16 Tilden, #18 Tunney, #21 Weissmuller, #38 Jones, and #40 George. One PSA EX 5: #30 Johnson. Two PSA VG-EX 4: #15 McNamara and #17 Dempsey. Condition composite of the balance (31 cards): 13 cards grade Ex: #'s 10, 12, 13, 14, 19 Shore, 26, 27, 29, 31, 37, 39, 45 and 47. 12 cards grade Vg-Ex: #'s 5, 6 Thorpe, 9, 11, 20 Kahanamoku, 22 Sarazen, 23, 25, 32 Lopchick, 34, 42 Hubbell, and 44 Baer. 6 cards in lesser grades: #'s 1 Cobb (rejected by PSA as trimmed, we believe this card was hand cut from a sheet, appears NM with 95/5 centering), 7, 8 Hagen, 33 Burke (these three cards appear Ex, but each has a touch of paper loss to reverse), 24 Morenz (miscut 99/1 left to right otherwise Ex) and 48 (Vg). A very attractive mixed grade near complete set, with many condition highlights, and with even the lesser graded cards having a far superior eye appeal than their technically accurate assigned grades. Tremendous break value. The SMR value just on the fourteen graded cards alone is $5,470. Total 44 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$8,000. SOLD FOR $9,775.00
