1933 Goudey #106 Napoleon Lajoie
Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $8,625.00
Graded by GAI Good 2. Very presentable Good condition example of this legendary rarity. The card has rounded corners and general wear, but is free of major creases. There are a few light surface creases, which are not easily seen, as well as a couple of small surface scrapes in the upper right. The card presents very nicely as an extremely attractive example for this low grade, without any significant imperfections affecting Lajoie's portrait. The back is surprisingly clean, with virtually no surface wear, and all text crisp and clear. The 1933 Goudey #106 Lajoie, of course, was not actually printed until 1934. When the 1933 set was issued, no #106 card was produced. #106 Lajoie was printed in 1934, and was available only by mail to those few dedicated collectors who took the time to write to Goudey to complain that they could not find #106 to complete their 1933 Goudey sets. An outstanding opportunity to acquire a relatively affordable example of this legendary rarity, long recognized as one of baseball card collecting's "top three" (the other two being T206 Wagner and Plank). Good condition. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000. SOLD FOR $8,625.00
