Roy Campanella Silver Trophy Trays (2)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,035.00
Two awards presented to Roy Campanella, dating from his playing days. These were among the few personal items sold by the Campanella family in 2003. The first is a 9 inch diameter, 7.4 oz. sterling silver tray, presented to Campanella in appreciation for attending a Lion's Club Dinner. It is beautifully engraved in script "Roy Campanella, In Appreciation for your attendance at the Newburgh Lion's Club Block "N" Dinner June 7, 1949." The second is an 8" diameter silver-plated bowl, presented to Campanella by the Lambda Kappa Mu Sorority in 1953. Campanella's career was tragically shortened by a car accident that paralyzed the Brooklyn Dodgers' star. In just 10 major league seasons, Campy won three NL MVP Awards. The two offered awards may not compare in grandeur or monetary value to his MVP awards, but they were meaningful to Campanella, and he saved them his entire life. Two award presentation pieces, originating directly from the Campanella family. Both are Ex-Mt. Total 2 items. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,035.00
