Starting Bid - $5,000.00, Sold For - $19,550.00

Exceptional high-grade complete set of the 1941 Play Ball set issued by Gum, Inc. 58 of the 72 cards in the set have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA. Of the remaining 14 cards, ten were not submitted to PSA due to centering issues, but are still very attractive examples, and four cards were rejected by PSA as trimmed (#'s 14 Williams, 29, 45, and 71 DiMaggio). The PSA condition report follows: 18 NM-MT 8: #'s 1 Miller (key high-grade rarity), 3, 8 Ott, 9, 10 Vaughan, 19 Gehringer, 21 Keller, 24, 28, 30 (o/c, centered 30/70 top to bottom), 37, 41, 43, 48, 54 Reese (RC), 62 (o/c, 80/20 top to bottom), 63 D. DiMaggio (o/c, 70/30 top to bottom and 30/70 left to right), and 68. 32 NM 7: #'s 2, 4, 5, 6 Hubbell, 7, 11, 13 Foxx, 15 Cronin, 22, 23, 26, 31, 34, 35, 36, 38, 39 Henrich, 40, 44, 46, 50, 56 Vander Meer, 57, 58, 61 V. DiMaggio, 64 Doerr, 65, 66, 67, 69, 70 Dickey, and 72 Gomez. Five EX-MT 6: #'s 16, 17, 20 Ruffing, 32, and 49. Three EX 5: #'s 12, 18 Greenberg, and 27. The four cards rejected by PSA each have a Nr/Mt or better appearance. These four cards include key cards #14 Ted Williams and #71 Joe DiMaggio, which though trimmed, still has significant market value accurately described. The remaining ten cards are off-center, but are otherwise in Excellent or better condition, and include the following: #'s 25 (Vg-Ex/Ex), 33, 42, 47, 51, 52, 53, 55, 59, and 60 Klein. The condition report speaks for itself. To summarize included are 50 cards graded by PSA Near Mint or better, plus an additional 8 cards graded by PSA ranging from Ex to Ex-Mt. The SMR value for the 58 PSA graded cards alone is $18,000. An outstanding high-grade complete set, which provides the foundation for a world-class complete set of one of card collecting's all-time classic gum issues. Total of 72 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $15,000/$20,000. SOLD FOR $19,550.00
