Mickey Mantle Collection Including 12 Signed Items (16)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,610.00
This lot features an impressive assortment of 16 signed and unsigned items relating to Mickey Mantle. Includes: 1) Original signed "player" contract (8.5 x 14 inches) from the Mantle/Ford Fantasy Baseball Camp, with information pamphlet. The contract is a reproduction of an original major league player's contract, and is signed by Mickey Mantle ("8") and Whitey Ford ("9") on the reverse in black ink. All participants in the Mantle/Ford Fantasy Baseball Camp would receive such a player's contract with the camper's name typed on the front, to make them feel just like a real major league ballplayer. The contract is folded in half with a corner crease in the lower right, otherwise grades Near Mint to Mint. 2) 1969 Sport magazine cover signed in blue ballpoint by Mickey Mantle ("8/9"). Excellent. 3) Two sets each of the 1990 Perez-Steele "Master Works" Limited Edition 1st and 2nd series. Both sets of the 1st series include five signed Mantle cards, for a total of 10 flawlessly signed Mantle cards. The signatures on all 10 cards are in blue sharpie and grade "9/10." The cards grade Near Mint to Mint. Accompanied by a photo of Mantle signing the cards. 4) 2/27/63 original wire photo of Mantle signing his $100,000 contract as Yankees' General Manager Roy Hamey and Yankee legend Joe DiMaggio look on. DiMaggio was, at this time, the only other Yankee ever to receive a $100,000 contract. The photo (8 x 8.5 inches) appears to have been neatly trimmed to its current dimensions, and has editing marks along the borders and reverse notes and stampings, all of which suggest this photo was used for publication, otherwise in Excellent condition. 5) 3/1/66 original wire photo (6 x 9 inches) of Mantle signing his $100,000 contract as Yankees' General Manager Ralph Houk looks on. The photo has editing marks on the front and is stamped "Central Press Association" along with the date on the reverse, otherwise Excellent. 6) Mickey Mantle's Gourmet Dinner Menu (8 x 11 inches). Elaborately designed menu for the "Second Annual Ballplayers' Party given by Mickey Mantle at Mickey Mantle's Holiday Inn Joplin, Missouri, Feb. 2, 1962." It must have been quite an event, with golf, floorshows, and entertainment, plus an exquisite French dinner complete with award-winning wine served with each course. Some of the attendees included Roger Maris, Clete & Ken Boyer, Bob Cerv, and many others. Interior pages include a list of all the players that attended and a complete menu with itinerary. Excellent. 7) Color photo (8 x 10 inch) of Mantle at his Hall of Fame induction in 1974. Near Mint. Total of 16 items. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,610.00
