1909 Shibe Park Opening Day Program
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,312.50
Extremely rare and substantial 48-page Souvenir Opening Day program to the Philadelphia Athletics Shibe Park. The interior includes many illustrations and essays regarding the history of the club, as well as the history of the construction of the new stadium. The opening of Shibe Park was a major event. It is surprising that so few examples of this program exist, though the then steep price of 10 cents may be at least in part be responsible. In over 30 years we have seen only 3 or 4 examples of this significant rarity, and this is the finest of these few in terms of condition. The exceptional cover design, which includes cameo portraits of B.F. Shibe and Connie Mack, makes this program ideal for display. The cover has bright, crisp colors. Extremely close examination reveals just a hint of long ago being lightly folded vertically, but the program lies perfectly flat. Overall Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500/2,500.
