1840s Henry Chadwick Sheet Music Collection with Two Signatures
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,185.00
This bound volume of sheet music, not baseball-related, dates from the 1840s and includes several published pieces written by Henry Chadwick. It was very common for published sheet musics of this era to have a formal dedication. One Chadwick sheet music is dedicated to his mother. Another, dated 1847, is dedicated to 1852 presidential candidate Major General Winfield Scott, and is signed in pencil on the lower right corner by Henry Chadwick ("5"). The volume contains a total of approximately 150 pages, representing approximately 30 published songs. The binding of the volume has essentially been lost, but the pages remain bound together. The cover of the book has survived but is detached, and is decorated with a gilded label reading "Henry Chadwick." The reverse of the cover is signed in pencil by Chadwick, in the context of providing ownership identification, "Henry Chadwick, 85 Gates Ave" ("5"). 85 Gates Avenue was Chadwick's home address in the 1850s. Music was one of Henry Chadwick's great passions, and this collection of sheet music was once a part of Chadwick's personal library. Good condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,185.00
