Circa 1900 Cap Anson Brand Ginger Beer Bottle
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $805.00
This glazed ceramic ginger beer bottle, circa 1900, comes from one of Cap Anson's many entrepreneurial ventures. The logo reads "Capt A.C. Anson, Anson & Birrell, Trademark GB, Chicago." The legend of Anson's Ginger Beer includes the story that Anson was storing the inventory of full bottles in his basement when the bottles exploded (presumably due to the cold storage conditions causing the freezing of the ginger beer) thus putting an end to the business venture. This rare surviving example was once originally a part of the legendary Halper Collection. It appeared in the Halper auction as lot #17 and at that time sold for $920. Height: 7 inches. There are very minor imperfections (tiny chip on the logo), otherwise in Excellent condition. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $805.00
