Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $690.00
Official American League (Harridge) baseball boldly signed on the sweet spot in blue fountain pen by 1927 NY Yankee Ben Paschal ("9"). Paschal will always be one of baseball's immortals, as a member of the 1927 Yankees. In 50 games, Paschal hit .317 for the 1927 Yankees. He went on to finish his eight-year career with a .309 lifetime batting average. The 1927 Yankees have always been a very popular area of collector interest. Paschal is an extremely rare '27 Yankee single. In fact, this is the first single-signed Paschal ball we have ever seen. This ball was once a part of the collection of James Armstrong, one of the all-time greats in the world of collecting. Armstrong amassed one of the largest baseball autograph collections ever assembled in the 1940s, '50s, and '60s, including many single-signed balls of players which are the only examples known today. Paschal passed away in 1974. The signature area has long ago been covered with a light coat of protective shellac that has very slightly darkened with age, some light fading to "Official American League" manufacturer's stampings, still in overall about Excellent condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $690.00
