1941 Joe DiMaggio Game #56 Hitting Streak Wire Photo
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,035.00
Incredibly rare and historic original wire photograph (10 x 6 inches) of Joe DiMaggio getting the first of three hits on July 17, 1941 to extend his consecutive game-hitting streak to 56 games. The original wire photo caption attached to the reverse is entitled "He Just Keeps Rolling Along," and goes on to detail that this photograph captures Joe DiMaggio lining "a single past Indian pitcher Al Milner in the first inning of yesterday's game with Cleveland" and noting that the hit stretched his consecutive hitting streak to 56 games. This is an extremely significant wire photograph of Joe DiMaggio, picturing him actually setting the consecutive hitting streak mark at 56 games, a record which stands to this day and which is one of the most celebrated and revered in the world of sport. Very light editor's note reading "DiMaggio" is barely detectible along the top border, neatly written editorial notations on reverse, UPI credit stamp on reverse beneath wire photo caption, which is dated "7-17-41." The photo is in spectacular Nr/Mt-Mt condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $1,035.00
