1954 NY Giants World Champions Team-Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $3,162.50
Official American League (Giles) ball is signed by 29 members of the 1954 World Champion NY Giants. Signatures, all in blue ink: Gomez (sweet spot), Mays, Thompson, Maglie, Worthington, Katt, Dark, Wilhelm, Westrum, Gardner, Irvin, McCall, Mueller, Rhodes, Jansen, Hofman, Taylor, Lockman, Hearn, Antonelli, D. Williams, Konikowski, Grissom, Amalfitano, Castleman, Corwin, Giel, and Liddle. The Durocher (sweet spot) is an applied stamped signature, which for some reason is almost always the case with 1954 Giants team balls. In 1954, the Giants welcomed the return from the military of their star outfielder Willie Mays. Mays did not disappoint. He was named the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1954, leading the Giants to the National League Championship, winning the batting title with his .345 average, and collecting 41 home runs and 110 RBIs. The Giants would go on to sweep the Indians in four games to register their last World Championship in an upset over the highly touted Cleveland Indians, winners of 111 regular-season games. The ball is accompanied by the original Spalding packaging wrapper. This is a stunning ultra-high grade example of this extremely scarce Championship team ball. The signatures grade "9." The ball is in Near Mint to Mint condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,162.50
