1968 Hoyt Wilhelm Chicago White Sox Game-Used and Signed Road Jersey
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,840.00
"King of the Knuckleballers," master reliever Hoyt Wilhelm appeared in more games (1,070) than any other pitcher in Major League history. He was also the first relief pitcher elected to the Hall of Fame. Wilhelm wore this Chicago White Sox flannel road jersey during the 1968 season. The jersey has "Chicago" across the front, with "White Sox" below. Wilhelm has beautifully signed the front of the jersey in black sharpie ("10"). Player number "31" appears on both the front and back, both in dark blue with white tackle twill trim. "Wilhelm" appears in dark blue chain stitching on a light blue patch in the collar. On the front left tail is the "Wilson" label, size "42" tag, and "1968 Set 1" label. On the back of the jersey is the player number "31" in blue on white tackle twill. The nameplate on back of the jersey has been professionally removed, and could be restored if desired. On the left sleeve is the "1818 Illinois 1968 Sesquicentennial" patch. The jersey shows excellent game use, and with the exception of the removed nameplate, has no alterations. Wilhelm posted a 1.73 ERA in 1968, his fifth season in a row under 2.00. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Dan Knoll/SCD Authentic and Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,840.00
