1943 NY Giants Bill Sayles Game-Used Cap
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $517.50
Blue and red professional model NY Giants baseball cap with a white and red "NY" insignia on the front was game worn by pitcher Bill Sayles. On the inside of the cap is a white patch with "Sayles" in red chain stitching. Most of the surrounding interior fabric sweatband has worn away from use. Sayles appeared in just 18 games with the Giants in 1943. On July 31 of that year he was traded, along with Bill Lohrman and Joe Orengo, to the Brooklyn Dodgers for Dolph Camilli and Johnny Allen. Sayles compiled an unspectacular lifetime 1-3 won-loss record over three Major League seasons, with a 5.61 ERA. Though not a Hall of Famer, this is an extremely rare and desirable war era cap style from one of baseball's most popular teams. In Excellent condition. LOA from Dave Bushing & Dan Knoll/SCD Authentic. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $517.50
