Circa 1909 Winkleman's Bread Pin
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,150.00
There's rare - and there's rare! In the world of baseball pin sets, it would be hard to find a rarity of greater magnitude than Winkleman's Quaker Bread. Offered is the only example we have ever encountered, anywhere, ever. Similar in design to the popular Morton's Bread advertising pin set featuring Detroit Tigers players, the Winkleman's Quaker Bread pins feature players from a minor league club from Memphis, Tennessee. The player featured is identified as Baerwald, who also appears in the 1909 Colgan's Chips card set. Winkleman's Bread was apparently not quite as popular as Morton's Bread, or perhaps Memphis, Tennessee, had fewer baseball fans, as these Winkelman's are as rare as turtle teeth (we reference a turtle because, in fact, a turtle is pictured below the player's portrait, which is almost certainly a reference to the Memphis team's name, as opposed to, say, commentary on Baerwald's base-running skills). Diameter: 1.25 inches. Ex-Mt. Reserve $200. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,150.00
