Twelve $500 Federal Reserve Notes
Starting Bid - $4,000.00, Sold For - $10,925.00
Offered is a collection of 12 circulated $500 Federal Reserve notes, all 1934 Series, drawn from seven different banks. Each note is printed with the facsimile signatures of Julian (Treasurer of the US) and Morgenthau (Secretary of the Treasury). Includes the following: two Bank of New York - Series 1934, two Bank of Atlanta - Series 1934-A, two Bank of Chicago - Series 1934-A, two Bank of San Francisco - Series 1934, Bank of St. Louis - Series 1934-A, Bank of Boston - Series 1934, Bank of Kansas City - Series 1934, and Bank of Cleveland - Series 1934. Overall the group grades Good to Fine. They are circulated, but with outstanding display value, with one having tape in the center to repair a tear. $500 bills were printed in much smaller quantities than the larger denomination $1,000 bills, and are considerably harder to find today than $1,000 bills. Last printed in 1945, the Treasury began actively removing large denomination notes from circulation in 1969, which has resulted in there being very few of these high impact, high value notes remaining in the hands of collectors today. A find of a dozen $500 bills is very unusual. These notes have been kept in the same family for many decades, and until now have literally not seen the light of day since they were many years ago put away as keepsakes and as a store of value. Reserve $4,000. Estimate $6,000/$12,000. SOLD FOR $10,925.00
