1936 Marx Brothers Vintage Signed Envelope
Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $2,587.50
Fascinating vintage envelope signed by three of the Marx Brothers with four related postmarks. Dating from 1936, this immaculately preserved envelope is signed by Harpo Marx, Groucho Marx, and Chico Marx. All three signatures are in bold, black ink, and each grades at least a "9" on a scale of 1 to 10. The envelope is stamped and postmarked from four cities with names related to the comedic brothers: "Jul. 4, 1936/Jolly, Tex.," "Apr. 1, 1936/Three Brothers, Ark.," "Dec. 25, 1936/Promise, S. Dak," "Oct. 30, 1936/Joy, Ky." Each signature and postmark is carefully spaced so there is no overlapping, further adding to the striking aesthetic appeal of this unique signed piece. The year 1936 fell right in the midst of The Marx Brothers greatest Hollywood success, with the movies Duck Soup (1933), A Night at The Opera (1935) and A Day at The Races (1937) all being released during the 1930s. This envelope is from a very famous collection comprised of signed envelopes with related postmarks, which a very dedicated collector conceived and assembled in the 1930s. The collection has long ago been broken up, but when individual examples from the collection surface, they are instantly recognizable. Beautifully framed to total dimensions of 17 x 20 inches and accompanied by a classic vintage movie still of The Marx Brothers (Nr/Mt). Ideal for display, this is a magnificent and unique signed tribute honoring these immortal Hollywood legends. Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad and John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $2,587.50
