James Dean Signed and Inscribed Photo

Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $7,475.00

One of the best signed James Dean photographs in existence! This original signed photograph (8 x 9.5 inches) magnificently captures Dean's youthful good looks and piercing stare. It is signed with a flourish in the upper left, "To Susan/With many thanks/my best always!/James Dean" ("10") in bold, purple ink. Classically trained at the prestigious Actor's Studio in New York, Dean starred in only three major motion pictures, but remains the very personification of the "live fast, die young" 1950s rebel. The signature and salutation on this photograph are large, bold, and clear. The photo does exhibit some minor creasing at the top center above Dean's image, but this is very minor and does not in the least detract from the signature or display value of the photo. James Dean died on September 30, 1955, but his image and memory remain ingrained in the consciousness of American popular culture. Because of his early death, authentic signed photographs of Dean are extremely rare. This is a spectacular and ideal example. Framed and matted to total dimensions of 15 x 18 inches. Excellent/Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad and John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $7,475.00
