Jim Morrison Endorsed Bank Check
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,610.00
The legendary Jim Morrison of The Doors has endorsed this beautifully displayed check on the reverse. Framed alongside a pristine jacket from the band's first album, the check is endorsed, "J Morrison" ("9") in blue ballpoint. The check itself is from the account of Morrison's management firm, Johnson & Harband, and is made out to "Jim Morrison" in the amount of $100.00. Dated May 28, 1968, the purpose of the check is not noted, though we speculate that it was most likely for "pocket money" extended Morrison as the band awaited a tour in support of their soon-to-be-released album Waiting For The Sun. Even Lizard Kings need "walking around" money. In his short and tumultuous life, Morrison left behind few signed items. The most desirable of these are the few verifiably authentic Morrison signatures that appear on official documents and checks, of which this is a stellar example, with the signature entirely unaffected by the bank cancellation marks and stamps. Near Mint condition. Framed to total dimensions of 21 x 26.5 inches. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad and John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,610.00
