1986 Mad Super Special # 55 Original Cover Art

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $805.00

Brilliantly colorful original cover artwork for Mad Super Special #55 (More Trash From Mad), Summer 1986. By premier Mad cover artist Richard Williams, this gouache on board rendering features Alfred E. Neuman as a genie emerging from the trash, to the shock and surprise of the garbage collector. Of special note is the fact that the garbage collector is no other than artist Richard Williams himself! Richard Williams is universally recognized as one of the primary highlight figures of the new generation of Mad artists. Starting with Mad in 1983, he quickly established himself as one of Mad's premier artists, producing numerous front and back covers, which are often reminiscent of Norman Rockwell (albeit a slightly twisted Rockwell) in style. Measuring 14 x 16.5 inches, the artwork is unsigned (not that it has to be, especially with Williams in the painting). The colors are bold and sharp. Matted and ready for framing. A gorgeous cover from the dean of modern Mad cover artists. Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $805.00
