1984 Mad Super Special # 46 Cover Art

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $805.00

Original cover artwork from longtime Mad illustrators Bob Clarke and Mort Drucker, for the spring 1984 Mad Super Special Movies II issue (#46). The gouache on board painting by Clarke shows an image of Alfred E. Neuman "gone Hollywood" in director-style beret and shades. The bottom border features original paste-over caricatures by Drucker of the year's hottest stars that are affixed to the larger piece. The likenesses include Robert Redford, Sylvester Stallone, John Travolta, and Paul Newman (Marlon Brando has long been missing and is not included). The work measures an impressive 17.5 x 22.5 inches and is signed in the lower left by Clarke on the "M" in "Movies." Both Clarke and Drucker were hired by Mad in the late 1950s and were significant contributors to Mad magazine in the decades that followed. Bright, crisp, and clean. In Excellent condition. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $805.00
