1915 Federal League Broadside
Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $1,495.00
This rare Federal League broadside advertises a game between the Newark and St. Louis Federals at Newark's Federal League Park. The two team names are printed in red, and an illustration of a ballplayer appears to the left of the text. This is the only example we have ever seen of this very substantial Federal League display piece. This sign was once a part of the legendary Barry Halper Collection. It appeared as Lot #487 in the famous Halper auction, where it sold for $1,840, and has been consigned to this auction directly from the collector who purchased it at that landmark sale. The sign is actually printed on both sides, so that it would receive "double exposure" if displayed in a store window. Sign measures 10 x 20 inches. Beautifully framed and ready to hang (frame measures 16 x 26 inches). Minor condition flaws include a few very small surface tears and some light staining along the bottom border, but still tremendous in terms of eye appeal, in Good to Very Good condition. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,000. SOLD FOR $1,495.00
