1961-1964 Ernie Banks Pro Model Bat
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,610.00
Hillerich & Bradsby signature model M159 bat exhibits heavy game use including ball and cleat marks along the length of the barrel. Some deadwood is evident on the back of the barrel. A handle crack (approx. 4 inches) has been professionally repaired; and the knob has two slight chips. Nicely finished with all manufacturer's stampings remaining clear and legible. We have found Banks bats to be particularly rare compared to many other stars of his era. The first black player on the Cubs and one of the game's earliest black superstars, Banks was the first National Leaguer to ever win the MVP award in consecutive years (1958 and 1959). He hit a record five grand slams in 1955, and in 1958 hit 47 home runs, the most ever by a National League shortstop. Banks is one of the game's most respected ambassadors and, with 512 career home runs, a member of the exclusive "500 HR" Club. Banks was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1977. Length: 34.75 inches. Weight: 31 ounces. SCD Authentic Grade: A5.5. LOAs from Dave Bushing/SCD Authentic and John Taube & Vince Malta/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
