1969-1972 Thurman Munson Rookie Era Pro Model Bat

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,624.00

This Hillerich & Bradsby signature model U1 dates from Munson's rookie year. H&B shipping records indicate just one order (six bats per order) of these bats were sent to Munson on 5/26/70, his second month as a rookie in the Major Leagues. Munson was one of the game's fiercest competitors, most popular players, and great team leaders. While he has not yet been elected to the Hall of Fame, his place in the hearts and minds of fans has endured. The powerful force of Munson's personality has left a tremendous impact on the game, the Yankee team, and fans. It is felt to this day. This is an outstanding game-used bat from one of the great Yankee legends, and one of the few Yankee players ever honored with the title "Team Captain." The bat has a cracked handle (approx. 6 inches) and shows evidence of heavy game use with ball, stitch, cleat, and blue bat rack marks visible on the barrel. The player number "6" is written on both the knob and barrel end in black marker. Although Munson wore the number "15," it was very common for one player to use another player's bat for a variety of different reasons. Munson's teammate Roy White wore #6 for the Yankees during the 1970 season and most likely used this bat. There is evidence of tape removal at the bottom of the handle. A rare and extremely early rookie-era game bat from this Yankee legend. Length: 36 inches. Weight: 33.5 ounces. SCD Authentic Grade: A7.5. LOAs from Dave Bushing/SCD Authentic and John Taube & Vince Malta/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,624.00
