1973-1975 Mike Schmidt Pro Model Bat
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,204.00
This Hillerich & Bradsby full-name model P89 exhibits heavy game use including ball, stitch, cleat, and red bat rack marks. The cracked handle (approx. 4 inches) has a light coat of pine tar. H&B shipping records indicate delivery of just one order of these bats (twelve bats per order) to Mike Schmidt on 8/19/75. Schmidt's player number "20" is written, but has faded, on the knob end in black marker. Some markings on the knob end in red marker are unrelated to Schmidt. Mike Schmidt established himself as the best all-around third baseman of all time. He was the National League's premier power hitter in the 1970s and 1980s, failing to hit thirty homers only three times in his sixteen full Major League seasons. Schmidt won the NL home-run crown a record eight times, led the NL five times in slugging and in RBIs four times, and is seventh on the all-time home-run list. He also won eleven Gold Gloves and was named to the same number of All-Star teams. An ideal Mike Schmidt game-used bat dating from very early in his Hall of Fame career. Length: 35.75 inches. Weight: 33.5 ounces. SCD Authentic Grade: A9. LOAs from Dave Bushing/SCD Authentic and John Taube & Vince Malta/PSA DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,204.00
