1887-1889 N172 Old Judge Collection (11)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,060.00
Exceptionally attractive and high-quality group of eleven N172 Old Judges with fronts cards ranging from Ex to Nr/Mt condition (two cards might be slightly less, Vg-Ex/Ex): Baldwin (Chicago), Brown (NY), Burns (KC) 1889 copyright date, Collins (Newark), Dorgan (NY), Flint (Chicago), Hughes (Brooklyn), Mattimore (Philadelphia), McGuire (Philadelphia), Morris (Pittsburgh) and T. Mullane (Cincinnati). Each of these cards exhibits light glue or tape stains on its blank reverse, and a few cards have a small pricing notation in pencil, as is often the case with Old Judges. Such minor imperfections would not even have to be mentioned in the "old days" of collecting. A little back damage on Old Judges usually "comes with the territory," especially since so many cards were originally saved in scrapbook albums. This is a very clean, very carefully assembled collection of N172 Old Judges, saved by an advanced collector in the 1980s, assembled one card at a time, with a concern for contrast and the overall eye appeal of each card. Great looking group. Total 11 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $4,060.00
