1887 Kalamazoo Bats N690 Smiling Al Maul
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,610.00
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive high-grade Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card, with printed advertising on reverse, of A's pitcher "Smiling" Al Maul. Kalamazoo Bats with advertising on reverse are especially rare and desirable. The card's very interesting photo includes an unidentified player standing in the outfield. Extremely strong corners (with three sharp corners, just a hint of wear in the lower left). Very clean, both front and back. The front is Near Mint. The reverse has a few very small areas of surface paper loss, affecting less than one percent of the area of the card, including a few letters of the reverse advertising, and some light toning, both of which are probably related to the card long ago being mounted in an album and removed. The reverse flaws are not serious, but are responsible for the downgrading of the card to Vg-Ex. The card would otherwise grade Near Mint. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,610.00
