Original Wrestling Posters Featuring Bruno Sammartino & Andre the Giant (2)

Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $232.00

In the "old days," presented on Sundays somewhere between the preliminary midget wrestling matches and the Roller Derby, gladiators of the ring squared off for the wresting "Championship of the World." Those were the days! Offered are two vintage 1970s wrestling posters headlined by two legendary pioneer superstars of professional wrestling, Bruno Sammartino and Andre the Giant. These heavy cardboard posters announce two cards from the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), precursor to today's WWE, run by the late impresario Vince McMahon, Sr. The first poster promotes a benefit card for the Humane Hook and Ladder Co. of Perth Amboy, N.J., featuring Samoan No. 1 vs. Andre the Giant (pictured), Larry Zbyszko vs. Dominic Denucci (pictured), Baron Mikel Scicluna, Johnny Rodz, and others. The second poster advertises the "Second Anniversary, Wrestling Spectacular, Boston Garden" and features the legendary Bruno Sammartino in a fighting pose with his Championship belt. Also on the card are Bull Ramos, Victor Rivera, Professor Tanaka, Eduardo Carpentier plus special midget and women's tag team events. For generations of fans who grew up watching these innocent but thrilling spectacles on late Saturday night and early Sunday morning TV, these posters will evoke strong memories. In remarkably Excellent condition with only mild shading from age at the edges, these posters harken back to a simpler age before blaring music, pyrotechnics and catch phrases, when wrestling was a guilty pleasure, and Andre and Bruno ruled the world. Each measures 26 x 17 inches. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $232.00
