Circa 1890 Auguste Renoir Signed and Inscribed Calling Card
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,044.00
Personal calling card of famed nineteenth-century Impressionist painter Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) initialed and with an elaborate inscription by him in French. This rare personal calling card is printed "A. Renoir 35, rue St-Georges" and includes four lines inscribed in black fountain pen by the artist above his initials, "AR." Renoir is most famous for his paintings of French river resort towns and the bustling streets of Paris. The card was torn along the left side and has been professionally restored. The tear bisects the beginning of three of the lines of the inscription and gives the impression of a fine crease; it does not in the least affect the legibility of the script or the integrity of the calling card, which has an otherwise Excellent appearance. An extremely rare inscription from the hand of Master Impressionist Auguste Renoir. 2.5 x 4 inches. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,044.00
