1921 Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Coogan The Kid Original Movie Still

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $290.00

Original Charlie Chaplin Studios publicity still (7 x 9 inches) from the 1921 film The Kid features a classic image of Chaplin as "The Little Tramp" and his sidekick, Jackie Coogan, as The Kid. One of his most highly regarded comic masterpieces, The Kid was Chaplin's first feature-length production and made an overnight star of Coogan. The black and white photo is stamped on the verso, "This photograph made exclusively for Charles Chaplin Studios" and has numerous date stamps and markings from its use in early film magazines. Vintage stills of Chaplin as "The Little Tramp" with Coogan are rare. Coogan would go on to become one of the top child actors of his day, appearing in The Little Rascals before graduating to the memorable role of Uncle Fester in the Addams Family TV series. Due to its use as a published publicity photograph, the photo exhibits a number of minor imperfections, including several tack holes. When used for publication, the photo was apparently tacked up and reshot as original art. Fortunately all these marks are confined to the edges and do not affect the central image. Dating to the great Charlie Chaplin's earliest and most memorable work, this publicity photograph is a fabulous early Hollywood keepsake, and a quintessential image from the earliest days of popular cinema. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $290.00
