1941 Orson Welles Citizen Kane Original Movie Still
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $232.00
Original RKO Studios official publicity still (8 x 10 inches) from the 1941 classic film Citizen Kane. This spectacular black and white RKO promotional photograph shows Orson Welles in the title role of Charles Foster Kane delivering a speech before a giant banner picturing himself. The reverse is stamped "Cozy Theatre, 320 South Broadway, Los Angeles, Cal." Orson Welles co-wrote, directed and starred in the film loosely based on the life of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, who was said to be incensed by it. In 1998 the American Film Institute declared Citizen Kane the number-one movie of all-time, and during the 1990s an attempt by Ted Turner to colorize the film met with public outrage. This is a rare original advertising piece which captures the spirit of the film and is ideal for display. The photo has a few imperceptible pinholes, and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $232.00
