1948 The Babe Ruth Story One-Sheet Movie Poster and Program
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $812.00
Colorful one-sheet movie poster advertises the 1948 Allied Artists release The Babe Ruth Story. This unintentionally comical biography, starring a miscast William Bendix in the title role, is considered by many to be the worst sports movie ever made. The movie was so bad that Ruth himself, while watching a private screening a month before his death, reportedly walked out of the theater halfway through the film. All advertising materials for this film are rare. The one-sheet is the most desirable "standard" sought after by collectors as its dimensions (27 x 41 inches) are ideal for display. The poster is mounted on linen and while having some restoration along the normal fold lines is otherwise in Excellent condition. Accompanied by an original program from the opening night premier of the film, featuring Ruth and Bendix on the cover, which is also ideal for display. The sixteen-page program (11 x 8.5 inches) is filled with photos of scenes from the movie and of Babe Ruth on the set of the film. The program has four small pieces of clear tape on the inside back cover, and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Total 2 items. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $812.00
