1942 Rawhide Three-Sheet Movie Poster
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For -
An original movie poster (1942 reissue) featuring the Western Rawhide, which starred Lou Gehrig, the New York Yankees first baseman-turned-actor. While Ruth made quite a few appearances on the silver screen, this was Gehrig's only full-length film. Few people have ever seen this movie, so here's a brief synopsis: Lou Gehrig plays himself. After the baseball season, Gehrig goes to Montana for some rest and relaxation on his sister's ranch. Well, you know how dangerous the West can be. His sister is being pressured to join an "association" which provides "protection" for local ranchers. Fortunately, her brother, Lou Gehrig, is in town. We really don't feel we have to spell out all the details. It's obvious what is going to happen. "The Iron Horse" is simply not going to stand for this! He is, after all, a Yankee with many World Series rings. The film culminates with a fight scene at the local saloon in which Gehrig takes on the bad guys one by one, knocking them out with billiard balls. We're not kidding. This is really the storyline of the movie. The moral? If you're trying to "shake down" Lou Gehrig's sister, do it when he is not in town! The poster was manufactured by the Morgan Litho Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio. The three-sheet poster measures 41 x 81 inches and is mounted on linen. Excellent condition. A superb, large, attractive showpiece from Lou Gehrig's only full-length film. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR
