1963 Bob Dylan Handwritten Hard Rain Partial Working Lyrics
Starting Bid - $2,000.00, Sold For - $13,920.00
From the hand of Bob Dylan in 1963, presented is a cherished keepsake which was saved by Peter MacKenzie, the son of the MacKenzie family. Dylan lived with the MacKenzie family in Greenwich Village during the early 1960s, and many of his most famous songs were written at this time. This page features the creative process at work for one of the lines in "A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall," which was written and released in 1963. The words on these working lyrics are very slightly different than the final version, and, as can be seen, Dylan is crossing out and changing words. This page, along with other personal materials, was a gift to Bob MacKenzie from Bob Dylan in 1963 when Dylan was living with the MacKenzie family. The sheet may not look like much, but it is one of the very few original period working lyrics of Bob Dylan's creative process, and one that relates to a song and a line which resonate with meaning and significance to its time. Signed and dated "Bob Dylan '63," the lyrics read "I'll know your song well before you start singing/And it's a Hard Rain's agonna Fall!" This is a unique and extraordinary museum-caliber period Dylan piece. All writing is in blue ballpoint and is bold and flawless ("10"). The sheet measures 8 x 5.25 inches. Some very minor wrinkling, two tiny edge tears, and unevenness along the left and bottom edges from removal from lyric book, but very clean, and otherwise in Excellent condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance and authenticity from Peter MacKenzie, as well as written confirmation from Rock 'N Roll Trust founder Ed Kosinski that Bob Dylan has personally confirmed the authenticity of this sheet of original working lyrics. LOA from James Spence, Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000/$6,000. SOLD FOR $13,920.00
