1887 N173 Goodwin Old Judge Cabinet Cap Anson

Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $4,930.00

Very pleasing medium-grade example of Cap Anson from the N173 Old Judge cabinet series. The N173 Anson is one of the most impressive of all Cap Anson cards, and one of the most sought-after of all nineteenth-century cards. The image on this card is very bold with strong contrast. The actual mounted photograph is in Excellent condition. The mount has some corner and edge wear, light soiling, and a couple of areas of water staining on the bottom border (very light in the lower left corner, more pronounced in the center of the lower margin above the "E" and "C" of "Old Judge Cigarettes"). Close inspection of the blank reverse reveals evidence of some extremely minor surface paper loss, very likely the result of having long ago been mounted in a scrapbook and carefully removed. Despite faults, still a very attractive card. Technically grades Good, but with much stronger appearance. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $4,930.00
