1940 R83 Gum, Inc. Lone Ranger Complete Set (48) Plus Wrapper

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $6,380.00

Complete 48-card set of the 1940 "Lone Ranger" gum card set: 65% range from Ex to Ex-Mt, 35% Vg-Ex. The 12 high-number cards (#37-48) are particularly scarce. Seven high-number cards grade Ex or better, five grade Vg-Ex. Gum, Inc.'s 1940 "Lone Ranger" series is one of the most popular non-sport sets ever issued. Its outstanding color, detailed artwork, popular subject matter, and the exciting adventures presented on the backs, all contribute to making this set one of non-sport collecting's all-time classics. This is a very attractive set, with even the lowest grading Vg-Ex cards having an Excellent overall appearance. No creases, just a little (mostly minor) corner and edge wear. Some cards have been downgraded due to natural print lines. This is an extremely attractive set with across-the-board outstanding eye-appeal. The set is accompanied by an original "Lone Ranger" Gum, Inc. wrapper, itself a significant rarity, which has always been considered one of wrapper collecting's greatest prizes. The wrapper is in exceptionally fine Excellent to Mint condition. In addition, also included with the lot is a second wrapper (5.5 x 2.75 inches), which we have never before seen, for "Lone Ranger Bubble Gum," with a green background and a repeating pattern featuring a portrait of the Lone Ranger. This very rare Gum, Inc. wrapper appears to have been issued with individual pieces of gum, apparently at the same time as the "Lone Ranger" card set. This gum wrapper is in Good condition, and was long ago taped in two places onto a slightly larger piece of paper, possibly for protection. Total 50 items (48 cards plus two wrappers). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $6,380.00
