The Ultimate Circa 1910 Tobacco Blanket and Rug Collection (800+)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,276.00

Amazing collection of 800+ tobacco "blankets" and "rugs." In the early part of the century, tobacco companies issued felt "rugs" and "blankets" as premiums. Bearing a variety of patterns and designs, "blankets" or "rugs" such as these could be stitched together as wall hangings, afghans, quilts, pillow covers or tapestries, or they were employed individually as doilies and table enhancements. We can't help but imagine that some of the smaller sizes were also used in dollhouses. Presented is an incredible assembly of more than 800 (nearly all different) tobacco rugs or blankets. This is by far the largest and most comprehensive collection of these premiums we have ever seen or heard of. Ranging in size from tiny (4.25 x 2.25 inches) fringed Persian rug styles that were inserted into packs of tobacco, up to premium-sized (16 x 28 inches long) national flags that were only available in exchange for coupons, this array covers the entire range of types and styles associated with these unique promotional premiums. Aesthetically, these are endlessly pleasing, offering a mix of flags, Indian themes, animals, and decorative patterns and images. Overall Excellent condition. Approximately 800 in total. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,276.00
