1930s Goudey Gum R73 and 1947 R773 Indian Gum Collection (442)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $9,280.00

Goudey Indian Gum is one of the most popular and difficult to complete of all the 1930s gum card issues. This complicated set was issued in ten different series. A complete "master set" includes 216 different designs plus 216 variations for a total of 432 cards. This collection features 315 out of the 432 different cards to complete a master set, plus 44 duplicates. Some Indian Gum card series are particularly noted for their rarity (all "Series of 264," "Series of 288," and "Series of 312" cards), and as listed below, most of these rare series cards are included. Also included with this collection are 83 of the 96 cards comprising the R773 1947 Goudey Indian Gum reissue set, for a total of 442 cards. 1) 1930s R73 Indian Gum: 359 cards (315 different and 44 duplicates). Includes near-complete set of 209 out of the 216 basic designs (not taking "Series" variations into account), missing only numbers 127, 130, 138, 140, 142, 144, and 150 for completion. Break-down by series is as follows: Series of 24: 8 out of 24 including 3, 6, 8, 9, 16, 18, 19, 24. Series of 48 (blue panel): 21 out of 24 (missing only 26, 34, 41). Series of 96: 61 out of 72 (missing #'s 1, 2, 8, 12, 13, 15, 16, 19, 21, 22, 23). Series of 288: 24 (plus 16 duplicates) out of 48 including #'s 110, 115, 118, 119, 120, 124, 125, 126, 131, 137, 148, 152, 154, 156, 158, 160, 162, 167, 179, 187, 204, 207, 208, 209. Series of 312: complete with 24. Series of 312 (white background): 4 cards: #'s 154 (2), 156, 168. The collection grades 16% Ex, 39% Vg-Ex, 45% Vg and lesser. Tremendous collection including many of the rarest cards in the set. 2) 1947 R773 Indian Gum: Near complete set of 83 out of 96 cards. Missing the following numbers for completion: 1, 6, 12, 20, 41, 51, 54, 69, 74, 79, 92, 93, and 96. Grades as follows: 42% Ex (35 cards), 31% Vg-Ex (26 cards), and 27% Vg (22 cards). In 1947 Goudey Gum attempted to reenter the bubble-gum card market, reprinting 96 cards from "Indian Gum," one of its most popular sets of the 1930s. The fronts feature the very same artwork of the Indian Gum cards issued by Goudey in the 1930s. The reverses have a slightly different design than their 1930s counterparts, and are printed in black ink (as opposed to the green ink of the 1930s issue). This series is of all the greater significance to collectors as it represents Goudey's very last card producing effort. This is an outstanding advanced collection of Goudey Indian Gum cards, representing a rarely offered foundation for a "master set," including 359 1930s R73 (315 different) and 83 1947 R773. Total 442 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $9,280.00
