1933 R71 Hunted Animals and 1938 R6 African Animal Jig Wrappers
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $812.00
Two extremely rare 1930s non-sport wrappers: 1) 1933 Planters Peanut "Hunted Animals." The "Hunted Animals" card set was marketed by the Planters Nut & Chocolate Company with a confection called "Big Game Peanut Blocks." The color artwork cards depict various animals and contain descriptions on the reverse. The offered wrapper has one fold line, but it is clear that this wrapper was never actually used to package the cards. The cards are relatively common but the wrapper is quite rare. Overall Nr/Mt condition. 2) 1938 National Licorice "African Jig." One of the most unusual trading card sets in the non-sport hobby is the "African Animal Jig" set issued by the National Licorice Company. The twenty-four color-artwork cards of this set, when properly placed, like a puzzle create a beautiful scene of African wildlife. Offered is an original multicolored wrapper from this interesting non-sport issue. The unused wrapper is a perfect never-used proof example with no fold lines. The design of the wrapper features the scene which can be assembled by the cards in the set. Extremely rare, especially in this ideal unfolded Near Mint condition. Two exceptionally rare 1930s wrappers which we have never before offered. The "Hunted Animals" wrapper lists for $700 in John Neuner's 1995 wrapper guide; the "African Jig" wrapper lists for $800 in this same guide. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $812.00
