1962 Topps Mars Attacks Color Process Proof Sheets (4) with Mylar Overlays
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,856.00
This lot includes four Mars Attacks 55-card blank-backed color process proof sheets, each featuring a complete set of all 55 cards in the set, plus an additional color process proof sheet which is missing six cards. These proof sheets were used by the printer to proof the colors prior to authorizing the printing of production quantities. The four complete sheets, each representing a complete 55-card Mars Attacks color process set, are printed in black and white, red and white, blue and white, and yellow and white, respectively. The red, blue, and yellow sheets are each accompanied by a mylar overlay that adds the black print (including card numbers and title) to each of the cards, which is particularly ideal for display. These very sheets were instrumental in manufacturing the legendary 1962 Mars Attacks set, and were retained by Topps until sold at the famous Topps auction in 1989. There are a few staple holes along the top of the sheets. The cards on the sheets have miraculously survived in essentially flawless Mint condition. Visually impressive, and possibly unique. These sheets grade Near Mint overall. Also included is an additional partial color process sheet (black and white with printed card numbers and title) with six missing cards having been hand cut. Each sheet measures 22 x 29 inches. From the Macaluso Collection. Total 5 sheets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,856.00
