1902 W600 Sporting Life Edward J. Delahanty

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $9,280.00

Spectacular high-grade W600 Sporting Life cabinet card of Ed Delahanty. Delahanty is one of the key Hall of Famers from this extremely substantial cabinet card set which is one of the highest quality baseball card issues ever produced. This is also one of the rarest, most majestic, and desirable of the few cards ever issued of Ed Delahanty. Delahanty's life tragically ended in a 1903 train accident which has forever been shrouded in mystery. It is believed that he accidentally fell off the train as it passed Niagara Falls. Sporting Life issued the W600 set over a period of years (1902 through 1911). This card was issued in 1902 or early in 1903. While many players in the W600 set were issued over a period of years, Delahanty was issued for only a very short time because of his untimely death, and this no doubt contributes to the great rarity of Delahanty. It is rare to find any W600 in such extraordinary high grade, let alone Ed Delahanty. This card has just the slightest hint of corner wear and is otherwise in flawless condition. Bright, crisp, perfectly clean, and still accompanied by the original glassine envelope in which the card was issued, which has protected it since 1902. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $9,280.00
