Circa 1910 Caramel Card Collection (92 cards)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,900.00
Collection of ninety-two caramel cards comprised of eighty E91s (seventy-eight different), three E104s, and nine E93s: 1) 1908-11 E91 American Caramel Company collection of seventy-eight different (of the ninety-nine cards in the set) plus two duplicates. Includes Hans Wagner (graded by SGC 20 Fair, nice looking card; we grade this card Good), Tinker (2), Johnson, Wagner, Chance, Brown (2), Evers (2), McGinnity, Bresnahan, Mathewson, McGraw, Bender, Plank, Hooper, Baker, Waddell, etc. As is often the case with E91s, this collection is not in high grade. Approximately 50% range from Good to Vg, approximately 50% range from Fair to Fr-Gd. This is still a very attractive (and, for E91s, a very large) collection of one of the most interesting and distinctive of all caramel card sets. The E91 set is sometimes referred to as the "fake design" set because the company used generic illustrations, rather than actual likenesses, of ballplayers. Thus, the exact same drawing (with team change on uniform) was used for two or three different players. 2) 1910 E104 Athletics (three cards): Bender (Gd), Murphy (G-Vg), Thomas (Vg). 3) 1910 E93 Standard Caramel (nine cards): Bender (Vg-Ex), Brown (Vg-Ex), Clarke (appears handcut, otherwise Vg-Ex), Collins (Vg-Ex/Ex), Griffith (Fr due to tape), Jennings (Vg), Waddell (Vg), Coveleski (Vg), and Delahanty (Vg). Total 92 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,900.00
