1915 E145 Cracker Jack Near Set (166 of 176)
Starting Bid - $4,000.00, Sold For - $15,080.00
Cracker Jacks are universally regarded as one of the most classic and highly regarded baseball card sets ever produced. Issued one card per box, the entire set of 176 cards could also be ordered by mail in exchange for 100 coupons, or 1 coupon plus 25 cents. Offered are 166 different of the 176 cards in the set, representing a near-complete set of this important issue. Missing only 10 cards for completion (#30 Cobb, 68 Wagner, 103 Jackson, 161 Roush, and 6 commons). The set ranges from G-Vg to Vg-Ex, with approximately equal representation at each grade level (G-Vg, Very Good, Vg-Ex). A few exceptions are only Good, and a few grade better than Vg-Ex as well. There are virtually no creases in the entire collection. Cards have been downgraded almost exclusively due to Cracker Jack candy stains and corner wear. This is a very solid group of cards which, with few exceptions, originate from Cracker Jack boxes (rather than from factory sets). Highlights include: #'s 2 Frank Baker (front Vg-Ex, minor tape remnants on reverse), 3 Joe Tinker (Vg), 6 Eddie Plank (Vg), 7 Eddie Collins (G-Vg), 12 Connie Mack (Vg/Vg-Ex), 14 Sam Crawford (Vg), 17 Roger Bresnahan (Vg-Ex/Ex), 18 Johnny Evers (Gd), 19 Chief Bender (Vg), 23 Charles Comiskey (Vg/Vg-Ex), 32 Mordecai Brown, 35 Harry Hooper, 36 Ed Walsh (Vg), 37 G.C. Alexander (PSA VG 3), 39 Chick Gandil (Vg-Ex), 43 Rube Marquard (Vg), 52 Wheat (PSA VG 3), 57 Walter Johnson (Vg), 61 Ray Schalk (Vg-Ex), 65 Tris Speaker (Vg), 66 Nap Lajoie (Vg-Ex), 69 John McGraw (Vg/Vg-Ex), 70 Fred Clarke (corner chip, Gd), 73 Max Carey (front Ex, minor paper loss to reverse affects a couple words of text), 75 Miller Huggins (Vg-Ex), 77 Hugh Jennings (Vg-Ex), 88 Christy Mathewson (Vg, nice card with no creases, only very minor caramel stains, corner rounding),94 Cicotte (PSA GOOD 2) 99 Hal Chase (Vg-Ex/Ex with minor paper loss to reverse), 136 Maranville (Vg-Ex/Ex), 167 Griffith (Vg-Ex). Eight commons graded by PSA (#'s 25 and 74 are VG-EX 4; #'s 26, 49 (SGC VG 40), 58, 128 are VG 3; #'s 113 and 159 GOOD 2). A rarely offered and relatively affordable medium-grade near complete set of one of card collecting's most classic issues. Total 166 cards. Reserve $4,000. Estimate $8,000/$12,000.
