1933 Goudey #96 Willis Hudlin PSA NM-MT 8

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $2,088.00

Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. One of only eight examples graded at this level with none graded higher. Cleveland Indians pitcher Willis Hudlin had somewhat of a modest career but did win eighteen games in 1927. For three years, he was Cleveland's Yankee-killer, with fourteen wins against New York from 1927 to 1929. During one of those victories, on August 11, 1929, he surrendered Babe Ruth's 500th home run. The card displays bold colors with four sharp corners and perfect registration. Centered a hint towards the bottom right border (55/45) with a very slight tilt to the picture. This is a beautiful high-grade example with an image that really "pops." We have found that the auction selling prices of cards from extremely popular sets with very low populations in the highest grades often sell for far more than SMR, and this is especially the case with classic vintage sets such as 1933 Goudey. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $2,088.00
