1935 R321 Goudey Uncut Panel
Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,088.00
Uncut panel (7 x 5.75 inches) of six cards. 1935 Goudey is one of the company's most interesting efforts. Each card features four players. Among the twenty-four players featured on this six-card uncut sheet are five Hall of Famers: Joe Cronin, Goose Goslin, Al Simmons, Jim Bottomley, and Mickey Cochrane. The reverse of the 1935 Goudeys features puzzle pieces, which can be collected and assembled to form a large baseball picture. One of the most intriguing aspects of an uncut panel of 1935 Goudeys, in addition to the novelty of its great rarity, is that when turned over one can view the reverse puzzle already assembled, as it appeared before being cut. The reverse of this six-card panel features a portrait of Joe Cronin. Like all Goudeys, R321s were originally printed on twenty-four-card sheets. The puzzle backs long ago encouraged collectors to hand-cut the sheets according to the puzzle backs. We have yet to see a full twenty-four-card sheet that has escaped this fate, though perhaps examples exist which have yet to surface. Extremely rare in uncut panel form. Two very light stains (on the upper left corner and on the card of Cissell) and even corner wear but otherwise in Excellent condition. Bright and clean, with perfect focus and colors. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $2,088.00
