1964 Topps Uncut Progressive Proof Sheets (7)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,088.00
Seven 1964 Topps color process sheets, each featuring forty-four-cards from Series Four (#371-446). This is a particularly strong group of forty-four cards with reference to stars. Hall of Famers and stars on each sheet include Ford, Clemente, Aaron, Mays, Spahn, Santo, Skowron, Cash, Yankees team, etc. These rare color progression proof sheets were intended for use by the printer to help check and correct colors prior to printing production quantities. It is very rare to find such a large "matched set" run of Topps color process sheets from this era. Many collectors are familiar with color proof cards sold by the Topps Vault on eBay which often bring extremely high prices offered individually. Those individual color process cards have been cut from sheets such as these, which are offered in their original uncut form. The seven proof sheets in this lot represent a total of 308 proof cards (44 x 7 = 308). These sheets (and the color process cards) on them may be unique. The seven sheets all have blank backs and each features a different color process: 1) yellow, red, and blue printing; 2) yellow and red printing; 3) yellow and black printing; 4) blue and yellow printing; 5) red printing; 6) blue printing; and 7) black printing. Each of these color combinations represents a step toward the final process with all colors. Each sheet has the printer notation "A-Sets" written in blue ink in the margin area. There are a few clean staple holes in the margin area at the top where the complete run of all color process sheets were originally stapled together for review by the printer. The sheets are in Excellent to Mint condition. The cards on the sheets are in Nr/Mt-Mt or Mint condition. Dimensions: Each 28 x 21 inches. Total 7 sheets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,088.00
