1922 John Heydler Signed Typewritten Letter

One-page typewritten letter (8 x 10.5 inches) from National League President John A. Heydler (1869-1956) to the Anson Family on official National League stationery, regarding expenses relating to the illness, death, and burial of Cap Anson. Dated June 5, 1922 and addressed to Cap Anson's daughters, "Mrs. Dorothy Anson Dodge" and "Mrs. Adele Anson Cherry" of Chicago, Illinois, the letter reads: "Dear Friends:- I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of June 2nd, enclosing therewith the vouchers, covering the expenses incident to the illness, death and burial of your father. Please accept my thanks for same. There will be no occasion to file any additional vouchers, as your statement fully covers. Yours truly, [signed in blue fountain pen] John A. Heydler" ("9"). Heydler was elected president of the National League in 1918 and served until 1934. This is a fascinating letter from the President of the National League relating to the passing of Cap Anson, who at this time was considered the game's greatest legend. Normal mailing fold lines. The letter has a diagonal crease in the lower right and some light soiling on the reverse, and is in overall in Vg-Ex/Ex condition. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA.
