Spectacular 1927 Lou Gehrig and Miller Huggins Signed Baseball

Starting Bid - $1,500.00, Sold For - $9,860.00

Extraordinary high-grade red and blue stitched Official American League (Johnson) baseball is signed by Lou Gehrig ("7/8") in blue fountain pen on a side panel. This is an exceptionally strong, large, bold Gehrig signature which displays magnificently as a "single." Yankee manager Miller Huggins has also signed the ball, on the sweet spot, with the salutation "To Norman Honuss" in blue fountain pen. Huggins has also added the date "March 23/27" on the adjacent panel above the sweet spot. The Huggins signature is faded. His first name ("Miller") grades a "2" and his last name is extremely light, barely legible, but present. The personal salutation and date notation grade overall "7." This is an extremely attractive high-grade ball in Excellent condition. All the official ball stampings are bold and distinct. The ball is a beautiful cream color with only very minor wear, including a tiny chip near the stitching below the "Reach" logo. This ball features one of the most impressive Gehrig signatures we have ever seen on a baseball. Because there is a light Huggins signature on the sweet spot, it is technically not a single-signed ball, and therefore represents a relatively affordable alternative to a single-signed Lou Gehrig ball, while at the same time actually displaying more impressively as a "single" than any Lou Gehrig single-signed baseball we have seen. This example is all the more desirable in that it dates from 1927. This is a gorgeous ball. LOAs from Mike Gutierrez/GAI and James Spence & Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $9,860.00
